If you’re planning a trip to New York for winter vacation or the holiday season I made a list of places that I think will capture all there is to see and do in the city that never sleeps during winter. Whether you’re really into the holidays like myself or just love sight seeing and trying new things this is the ultimate guide book for you.
The Plaza Hotel: No matter what season it is, theres always something to do at The Plaza! I absolutely love this hotel. From its tall stature to its historic columns inviting you in the Plaza is magical. I could get lost in there haha (and believe me, I have). Now you’re probably thinking, “Whats so great about a hotel? It’s just a bunch of rooms,”. WRONG! The Plaza has its own shopping center and food hall to galavant and browse through. After a long day of walking around in the city I like to come in, sit down and enjoy a hot beverage with some macaroons from FP Patisserie.
Rockefeller Center: Be a typical New York tourist and watch the Rockefeller Tree light up at night along with 700,000+ people all season long. Right across from the Rockefeller Tree is the department store holiday window displays that put a light show on every night throughout December. Department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales all participate in this event. Another thing to do at the Rockefeller Center is go down to the ice rink and put your skates on! This is extra fun for kids too because Santa is on the ice at all times skating with them. However, if you’re not a big fan of ice skating or don’t really know how to you can always grab a cup of coffee and watch the skaters go by.
Radio City Music Hall: Go see a christmas show like the famous Rockettes “Christmas Show Spectacular” to get you into the holiday spirit. You can dress up or go casual but be sure to wear a big warm coat because New York winter is no joke.
Sporting Event: A fun thing to do in the city no matter what the season is, is to go watch a sports game. I went with my Boyfriend to go see a hockey game in Brooklyn at Barclays Center. It was a lot of fun cheering on the New York Islanders against the Washington Capitals and its the perfect opportunity to get a little loud and jump up and down for your team!
Whether you end up watching a Rockettes show, go ice skating at Rockefeller center or exploring the Plaza Hotel you’ll enjoy yourself no matter what because its New York City after all. The city of dreams, the big apple, the empire state… whatever you call it I can guarantee you’ll never be bored. Just remember… pack a big winter coat and wear lots of layers because New York winters are a challenge haha.
